2020 Scholarship Information

Jesse Long is the 2020 recipient of the Women’s Civic League of Portage $1,000.00 scholarship awarded to a Portage High School graduate. He is the son of Crystal Long. Jesse plans to major in Clinical Psychology and minor in German. He would like to attend Columbia University with his second choice, Harvard, and third choice, Yale. He has also applied to the University of Southern California and New York University.

At the close of his regular college career, he plans on taking the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and using his Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology to gain acceptance into Columbia Law School. His goal after graduating from law school is to pass the New York state bar exam and begin practicing law in Manhattan, New York City as a prosecuting Assistant District Attorney. This career has interested him because he has watched his mother in her position as Assistant District Attorney for Columbia County.

Jesse’s Portage High School career included numerous activities: German Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Band, Football, Track and Field and he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Besides being a very active student, he finished second in his class along with taking 15 AP (Advanced Placement) courses. Jesse’s commendable academic record and his goals for the future make him a very worthwhile recipient of the Civic League scholarship.

Laura Kallenbach, Portage High School Counselor, sent a letter thanking the Civic League for its continued financial support of the graduating seniors through the gift of a local scholarship. This year, over $177,000 of local money was provided exclusively to the senior class.
