2018 Scholarship Recipient
The Women’s Civic League Scholarship of $1,000.00 was awarded to Codey Neises at the May 7th Scholarship Awards Night at Portage High School. He is the son of Chris and Shelli Neises. Codey will be attending the University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa and majoring in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Business Management and Spanish. Aerospace Engineering is very specialized and there are no schools in Wisconsin offering that degree.
Codey has been very active throughout his high school career participating in soccer and hockey, Spanish Club, was the Drum Major for the Marching Band, involved in the Spanish exchange trip and was the representative from Portage High School at Badger Boys State. Besides all his activities he has earned a total of 28 credits and taken 15 AP (Advance Placement) classes–outstanding!
He also has begun the process to attain a private pilot license, is preparing for the written exam and has been helping restore a Piper-colt PA22 with the Portage EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) since last summer. The people involved have taught him so much about planes and their experiences with aircraft. He feels knowing how everything on a plane works will help him in his career and being able to fly them will give him a huge advantage when going through college and working after college as an Aerospace Engineer.
All of us at Women’s Civic League wish the very best for Codey Neises!!!
